MEET SYDNEY
Sydney Cariel is a multimedia sports broadcaster currently based in Dallas, Texas. Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Sydney’s sports broadcasting career has taken her all over. Most recently, she lived in Detroit and worked for WXYZ ABC 7 as a Sports Anchor. In this role, Sydney covered the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons as well as Michigan and Michigan State athletics. In addition, she also served as the sideline reporter for Horizon League basketball on ESPN+ primarily covering Oakland University. Prior to these roles, Sydney was the Sports Anchor and Reporter at ABC12 in Flint, Michigan. During her time there, she co-hosted the Friday night football and basketball shows as well as co-hosted the annual hour long preview shows for Michigan and Michigan State football. The two specials called “The Backyard Brawl” and “The Game” were hour-long live shows outside of the stadiums filled with feature stories, interviews, highlights, and more. Before moving to Mitten, in the fall of 2017 Sydney started her career in Midland, Texas at NewsWest 9 as the Sports Anchor and Reporter. She was part of an all female sports department who changed the game around West Texas with our creative and innovative sportscast ideas. Sydney worked her way up to Sports Director to close out her time in Midland. This exciting journey all got started after Sydney graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State in 2017, but growing up in a sports fanatic family, Sydney’s passion for sports storytelling goes way back to her first 49er game as just a kindergartner! Her passion is bringing people together through sports and it grows everyday!
